Abstract

Lipids extracted from the brain of mammoth <i>(E. primigenius) kept in a frozen state for more than 40, 000 years were analyzed. phospholipids underwent degradation, whereas sphingo-lipids partially persisted. Fatty acids and free cholesterol were detected, whereas other sterols were not found. The brain underwent dehydration with partial degradation of its lipid content. -- AATA
