Abstract
Tradition is a strong teacher, but in a field in which a notable lack of tradition exists stepping out of the mould is always possible. Photograph conservation is currently undergoing an examination of its unconventional roots and new ways are being devised to invigorate its growth within the larger field of conservation. Changing attitudes about treatment, scientific input, the immensity and challenges of collections care, and emerging technologies are all aspects that have contributed to this evolution. New initiatives in education and training are emerging as a response to the changing needs of photograph conservation professionals.
