Abstract
The conservation of the Dormition Cathedral Gospel (dating from the end of the 14th/beginning of the 15th centuries) involved unbinding, paint consolidation, parchment flattening and rebinding, executed in such a way that the configuration of the book block as a whole could be preserved but the Codex made available for study and display. The painting was consolidated with water/alcohol solutions of vinyl-acetate-ethylene copolymer. To preserve the pattern of golden tooling on the edges, the parchment was flattened using a particular moistening and pressing method, applied to still folded bi-folios and whole quires. While reconstructing the text-block sewing, we eliminated previous repairs that had brought about stiff deformation and damage of the book spine. -- SCMRE
