The intention is to identify the different types of dwellings on Tabarka, their mutual influence and the laws of aggregation used to form settlements from them. At the present time it is difficult to follow the traces of these architecture types in their original place. The only surviving part of that Tunisian Tabarka, inhabited by Genoese coral fishermen during the 15th-18th centuries, is San Jorge fort and the remains of some minor buildings. The original documents of the age are not sufficiently descriptive. It is nevertheless indeed possible to trace the influence of these typologies in other towns which can be considered their heirs: Carloforte on the island of San Pietro (Sardinia), and Nueva Tabarca on the Isla Plana opposite the coast of Alicante.
