Abstract
Pilot plant and commercial tests have substantiated the favorable influence of yttrium on cast iron. Yttrium produces a significant increase of the tensile strength, hardness and wear resistance. High grade cast iron can be obtained with the aid of yttrium also from less valuable base materials.
