Throughout art history there have been many artists who have used Monochrome Art as an expression mode. Different artists and movements have treated this type of art, choosing the materials and method of manufacture and adapting it on their works, according to the intent and the message they wished to convey. Monochrome Art is primarily conceptual art and its meaning or message is closely related to the materials used and plastic qualities. The artist develops delicate and velvety surfaces, that would be affected by any slight change, rubbing or manipulation of the surface. The artistic concept perishable complicates the conservation and restoration of Monochrome Art collections because treatment in these works could change the intent by the artist. This article presents an interesting haul of various works that have been developed under these premises, and making a study theoretical and practical imperative for conservation.
