Abstract
Although poly (para xylylene) has shown excellent corrosion resistance in protecting metals and some organic substances, its disadvantage is that treatment is not easily reversible unless applied over a priming coat of nitrocellulose lacquer. Safe removal of organic coatings has been achieved in low temperature plasmas of oxygen and argon (however, this procedure is hazardous to silver). The application of poly (para xylylene) must be executed in the appropriate plant with a costly vacuum chamber by trained personnel. Acrylic monomers may provide an alternative impregnation treatment.
