The National Archives of India received from the Bharatiya Jnanpith, New Delhi, a painting on cloth, measuring 70x75 cm, to be treated. The painting's condition is noted; it had been pasted onto another piece of cloth, and stored folded, resulting in paint peeling and cloth deterioration at the creases. There was brownish discoloration. Restoration treatment included fumigation. Because the colors were not waterfast, deacidification was carried out by a 2 hour exposure to ammonia fumes. The painting was relaxed, using a damp white blotter and pressure for about one hour. The paste of the backing cloth was removed. After air drying, the painting was flattened between two sheets of wax paper with an electric iron. It was laminated to a sheet of long cloth at a temperature of 140°C and a pressure of 500 p.s.i.
