Abstract
The author describes albumen paper as the most widely used photographic printing material from about 1855 to 1895, and was used until the 1920's. Most albumen prints suffer from staining, fading, and color change, with deterioration more advanced than in nearly every other photographic paper. The history of the technique is given. Causes and mechanisms of deterioration are described.
