Abstract
During the 1979 season of excavation of the Late Cypriote Bronze Age town at Hala Sultan Tekke, an electro-magnetic survey was carried out with the help of a Very Low Frequency Discriminative Detector (VLF-Discriminator). The survey resulted in the discovery of a rich shaft grave and, in an area of some 10,000 sq. M., 159 metal artifacts (bronze, copper, gold, iron, lead and silver) as well as some non-metal objects and features. Comparisons were made with two other electro-magnetic devices, a Pulse Induction (PIM) and an Induction Balance (IB) detector. The tests favored the VLF detector. The results of a resistivity survey also were compared with those from the proton magnetometer survey made in 1972 and with the findings of subsequent excavation. The agreement between the two surveys and the subsequent excavation was good.
