Abstract
The study of materials and painting technique on 31 panel paintings is mainly based on X-radiographs, cross sectioning and SEM/EDX analyses. In order to ease a comparative study, the colouring of the separate pictorial elements has been classified according to pigment composition and pigment application. The results of these analyses are compiled in a tabulated form tailored for an analysis of the painting techniques applied within each painting. A brief discussion points to the use of various painterly effects favoured within the period investigated. -- SCMRE
