Documentation is an integral part of collections care and of conservation. Increasingly, networked systems and digital imaging are influencing the way conservation work is documented, manipulated and interpreted. Through information and communications technology, conservation can be made accessible to a much wider audience. Recent projects at the National Museums of Scotland are used to illustrate how the Department of Conservation and Analytical Research aims to use documentation as a tool for communicating conservation concerns and promoting conservation priorities. -- SCMRE
