This report is a summary of a lecture by Deborah Bede of the Textile Conservation Workshop. A brief review was given of techniques for dye analysis: the use of reagents, thin-layer chromatography (TLC), ultraviolet-visible spectrophotometry, x-ray fluorescence, infrared spectrophotometry, and elemental analysis. All techniques provide identification by comparison to a library of standards; TLC was felt to give the best results. -- AATA
