This article is part of a larger project, to be published as a book, on the main weaving techniques of China, Western Asia, Italy, and Spain. The author's research on these techniques is based on personal experience of weaving replicas of ancient textiles. He describes one type of loom used in the Han period, and proceeds to discuss the loom set up and used to weave the four examples cited-three of which are Han silks and one from the Yin period. He describes the 2-2 method, and variations of the method, used to reproduce three examples of twill patterns on a tabby ground and one sample of Han qi (tabby patterned with warp floats).
