Immersion dyeing of crust leather can be carried out just before it is finished. The principle of immersion dyeing of leather has not changed since the foulard type of immersion dyeing was developed about 1970. However new machines give shorter float to economize and more sophisticated transport of leather so that they are able to handle smaller skins and very soft leathers. Selection of dyes and the dyeing process are discussed. The author concludes that a variety of colors and fastness properties are still easier to achieve by the traditional drum-dyeing process.
