The Early Bronze Age in Southern Scandinavia (3000 years ago) produced a number of bronze objects carrying ornaments comprised of a running sequence of spirals, or even several sequences arranged in concentric rings. These ornaments are traditionally believed to have been made in the final stage of production with a chisel and a punch. The author describes observations and experiments which show rather convincingly that the ornaments were in fact made by impression in the wax model and as a consequence produced in casting.
