Discussion of corrosion of copper occurring with hydrogen sulfide-contaminated fuel. The performance of benzotriazole, mercaptobenzotriazole, and other sulfur-containing inhibitors is investigated using the American Society for Testing and Materials Standard D130-83 method. These results were correlated with fuel composition, inhibitor film characteristics, and corrosion products present on the surfaces of the coupons. Inhibitor film characteristics and corrosion product compositions were determined using Auger electron spectroscopy (AES).
