Discussion of inevitability of loss of color photographic images and some techniques which may slow the changes. Illustrations show color losses with some types of color materials in photos taken in 1939, 1948, 1963 and 1969, and very little loss in color of an image made in 1944. Stressed are storage methods (low humidity, cool, dark), careful selection of stable storage containers (free of acids and plasticizers), use of duplicates for projection. Quality processing is cited as very important. Relative stability (or lack thereof) of various color materials is discussed. It is noted that Kodak states that its color negatives should be capable of making satisfactory prints for 2 to 5 years if kept in cool dry environment after careful, proper processing.
