Abstract
A method of gaseous sterilization of textiles using ethylene oxide for control of fungi and bacteria contamination is described. Since ethylene oxide is toxic and explosive it is mixed with non-explosive gases such as carbon dioxide or freon. Such commercial products are Carboxide and Cryoxcide. Textiles are placed in polyethylene tubing with a can of Cryoxcide and the tube is sealed. The can is opened within the bag and the ballooned bag left for 24 hours. (Illustrated with diagrams) A metal drum for sterilization is also described, which will give 100% destruction of spores and destroy eggs and adult insects on 24 hours exposure at 70°F.
