Abstract
A definition of historical textile conservation and the importance of theories in conservation work are discussed. Natural fibers are described and diagrams of their structure are provided, illustrating the porous structure, the fiber cell, the fibril, the micelles and single molecules. Characteristics of the molecules composing a fiber are indicated and illustrated with diagrams and the effects of fiber destructive forces are shown.
