Abstract
The temperature dependence of diffusion was measured for Ag- 110 m in a sintered aluminum material containing 6% oxide and for Zn-65 in SAP containing 13% oxide. The effective rate of diffusion is larger in both cases than the corresponding process in pure aluminum. The material transport in the oxide can be neglected. At temperatures between 350 and 660 degrees C, diffusion along the phase boundaries is probably essential. Within the aluminum phase, volume diffusion, grain boundary diffusion, and diffusion along dislocation lines as well as along internal surfaces are contributing. The diffusion in the direction of extrusion is always faster than in the transverse direction. This effect is caused by a preferred orientation of the aluminum oxide particles. Furthermore, grain boundaries along the direction of extrusion are more effective than in the transverse direction.
