A simple, quick scheme is presented by means of which the complete analysis of an unknown mixture for the identification of 40 cations and 19 ions in 0.5 ml of solution can be accomplished in 2-3 hours. An apparatus for the collection of samples of alloys and other metallic surfaces is described. Cations are first separated into five groups by solvent extraction; these groups are then resolved by the use of circular thin layer chromatography. The chromatoplate is sprayed with appropriate reagents to distinguish and identify the components. -- AATA
