This article shows by the analytic examination of about 500 prehistoric Irish gold finds, that these finds can be divided on the basis of their composition in various clearly different groups and that these single material groups correspond with prehistoric types of finds. For comparison, the material of Irish gold from the Wicklow Mountains was brought in to indicate that only very few of the prehistoric finds of gold in Ireland were from the gold which was locally gained. Comparative analyses on gold finds from the Urnfield period of Middle Europe confirm the conclusion that in the Late Bronze Period of Ireland, gold of the same origin was used on a wide scale like in the Urnfield period of Middle Europe. In the same period one can see as well in Ireland, as in Middle Europe, that a mixture of copper alloy was added to the gold intentionally, probably in order to give the alloy a reddish tint.
