Fumigant tablets, after four hours exposure to atmosphere, release phosphine along with pungent ammonia as a warning agent and carbon dioxide to suppress fire hazard. Hydrogen phosphide, more commonly known as phosphine, is one of the most effective gaseous fumigants. For a complete control of insects in all stages of growth, lower concentrations are required for phosphine than conventional fumigants.
