Abstract
The results of a number of analyses of glazed early pottery and faience from Mesopotamia are reported and compared in order to develop a coherent overview of glaze technology throughout the various regions. Mesopotamia was the source of early pottery glazing in western civilization; a uniform history is indicated, and variations in the amounts of tin, lead, and zinc reflect local recipes. Lead glazing itself is not represented in the analyzed material from Mesopotamia. -- AATA
