Abstract
Chemical cleaning of building exteriors, if approached intelligently, can result in the building's substrate being returned to its original condition. The author, who spent 10 years specializing in high-pressure water and chemical cleaning, outlines a step-by-step procedure to be followed in cleaning of historic structures, and explains some of the common pitfalls. The appendix includes a sample set of exterior building cleaning specifications.
