The authors carried out detailed research on a wooden model of a human head owned by the Medical School of University Tokyo. Prior to the repair, the authors found from its x-ray radiograph, that the model was a composite of wood pieces and was made of hinoki (Japanese cypress). The white pigment used was CaCO₃; the red pigment was HgS. The wooden part of the head had shrunk; the joints were loose and the color flaking. Details of the repair were described.
