Abstract
Anatolia is one of the oldest metallurgical regions in the world. It is believed that the development of its metal industry followed the sequences: native copper, extractive copper, arsenic bronze, tin bronze and brass. Analyses of bronze artifacts from different settlement sites in Anatolia were carried out by atomic absorption spectrometry (AAS). Arsenic bronze production began during the Chalcolithic Period and ended at the beginning of the Late Bronze Age. Tin bronze production started at the beginning of the Early Bronze Age and ended in Hellenistic times. Some lead bronze was produced during these periods but generally it also contained arsenic or tin. Zinc as an alloying element appeared during the Hellenistic Period in Anatolia.
