The author describes in seven examples seven totally different causes leading to the flooding of archive and paper material. The danger appears to come from literally all directions. The Restoration Workshop for paper and archive material 'De Tiendschuur', Tilburg, is specialised in handling cases of water damaged paper material. Their planning scheme includes: a first impression of the nature and extent of the calamity, an evacuation plan including transport materials, the actual evacuation and transport to a deep-freeze installation, and vacuum freeze drying. Special attention is paid to the prevention of mould growth and mechanical deformation. The after-care mainly consists of cleaning and flattening. Murphy's Law is declared valid in this field.
