Abstract
The recently agreed Stuiver-Pearson calibration curve for carbon dates focuses the need for some agreed upon notation so that it is immediately obvious whether uncalibrated radiocarbon years or actual dendochronologically corrected years are meant. BC, AD, or BP were agreed upon for uncalibrated dates, with the suffix cal. BC or cal. AD for corrected dates. The author now suggests a system of only using BP for uncalibrated dates, BC and AD being reserved for calibrated dates alone, clearly not needing the suffix cal. -- AATA
