Abstract
The author comments on a lengthy article on panoramas by Bosshard and Marty (See AATA 22-1846), who thought that the constant tension in his self-adjusting stretcher might lead to plastic deformation of the canvas. The author explains that: 1) an unstretched canvas can never be a safe support for a paint film, 2) the low tension required to make it a safe support can be sustained by the canvas indefinitely. The performance of the self-adjusting stretcher is explained in words and a diagram, while the amazing state of preservation of the paint film in panoramas is described as the principle on which this unique stretcher was built. -- AATA
