Abstract
Tin oxide electrodes can be used for direct melting or for electrical boosting in conventional gas- and oil-fired furnaces. They are also employed for heating forehearth and delivery systems. These electrodes have potential for melting other glasses in addition to lead compositions. As tin oxide systems are improved, they may well become increasingly used in the electric melting of conventional glasses, thus leading to a greater consumption of tin in this outlet.
