Abstract
This cradle has been designed to avoid two faults: (1) adhering battens running along the grain which are too wide and consequcntly constrain the panel beneath them; (2) adhering battens which, although thin, are fixed to panels of slanting and wavy wood grains. The adhering battens in the cradle system described in this article are cut to follow the grain pattern of the panel. For panels which should not be straightened a sub-cradle is described with battens of graded thickness.
