Abstract
The problem concerns the identification of organic pigments in paint, paper, printing ink, plastics, and synthetic fibers. Color matching is best attained by colorant matching. The identification is based on (1) the chemical classification of pigments of V. C. Vesce (in J. J. Mattiello (ed.), Protective and decorative coatings, II, Wiley, New York (1942)); and (2) the use of spectrophotometric transmittance curves of solutions of pigments in many solvents as proposed by Shurcliff (J. Opt. Soc. Amer., 32 (1942), p. 160) and Stearns (American Dyestuff Reporter, 33 (1944), p. 1), and others. Examples are given. -- AATA
