An examination of the hypothesis that the Avebury circle was laid out by means of a geometric construction of a particular type using an exact unit of length. Computer calculations are described which provide several plausible geometrical constructions. The hypothesis is unproven, no geometrical construction having been clearly established and no satisfactory evidence having been produced for an exact unit of length. -- AATA
