Abstract
Mossbauer spectroscopy techniques were used to characterize the corrosion mechanisms and phase transformations under mild, aggressive and humid conditions, including rusting beneath paint coatings. In the last case, the formation of gammaand beta-phases in the immediate vicinity of the metal, as well as the growth of a crystalline layer directly under the paint, were observed. A different pigmentation is capable of changing the total weight of the corrosion products, but not the alteration of the phase transformations. -- AATA
