Potsherds show varying amounts of phosphate. These are absorbed in the case of neolithic pottery. Phosphate is added deliberately by the Roman potter during the preparation of the clay by adding animal manure in order to obtain a soft clay. Analytical values and a statistical evaluation are given. -- AATA
