Abstract
Antique gold and silver objects are manufactured by using various techniques of decorating the surface. The surface can be decorated by engraving, chasing, chiseling, or carving with different tools. The methods produce different marks from which the technique of working can be deduced by microscopic or radiographic analysis. The techniques of applying niello are discussed. The techniques of making wire are described with a new perspective concerning the use of drawplates.
