A nonlinear color appearance model was tested with chromatic object colors under varying illuminance levels. Color appearance and brightness matches were made for Munsell color pairs by adjusting the illuminance of haploscopic fields. Observed illuminances were significantly different between the matches for equivalent color pairs. The model accurately predicted the illuminances of both color appearance and brightness matches.
