Abstract
The background to the purchase in 1976 of a Neil and Spencer Sovereign 380f commercial dry cleaning machine is given together with the reasons for choosing the solvent trichlorotrifluoroethane for use on historic textiles. The modifications to the machine made both at the time of purchase and subsequently are described. Examples of the variety of objects that have been treated in the machine are given.
