Abstract
The whiteness of scoured wool has been correlated to the outer protein contaminant layer of the raw wool fiber. It is into this protein contaminant layer that other contaminants-wool grease, suint, and dirt -- embed themselves into the raw wool fiber. Unless the ash and solvent-extractable contents are high, they bear no link to the whiteness of the wool after scouring. -- AATA
