Abstract
O. J. Kallmes stated in Tappi, Vol. 7, No. 11, (1984) that there had been relatively little success with frequency analyzers based on single line scanners to measure the formation and specifically characterize the floc structure of paper sheets. This letter to the editor refutes this finding. The author details how and why frequency analyzers produce serviceable formation spectra, adding that the use of an image analyzer will eventually enable researchers to perform two-dimensional analysis of floc structure. -- AATA
