Abstract
Some 300 VICAR (Video Communication and Retrieval) programs which can manipulate data within visual images by processing through a large IBM 370/158 host computer have been developed at the image processing facility at the Jet Propulsion Laboratory, Pasadena. Various capabilities of the image processing were used in three studies involving Degas bronzes, a Dutch painting, and changes in the surface character of paper from fluctuations in relative humidity.
