Abstract
Serving to lots of users due to various units that are included in, high rise buildings are important energy consumers of the cities. As lighting systems are responsible for a large part of the energy consumption in residential buildings, daylighting is beneficial for both minimizing the lighting energy consumption and for user’s visual comfort requirements. There are many natural and physical design parameters that affect the daylighting potential from settlement design to material selections in each room. Today, computer based lighting simulation programs make it possible to challenge with multiple design parameters expeditiously and effectively. In this study, daylighting strategies in high rise residential buildings are explored by focusing on a real case building in terms of shading analysis of the settlement and daylight availability of the flats through Ecotect and Dialux simulation programs. Herewith, the importance of daylight evaluations in the architectural design phase is remarked by comprehension of obtained findings.
