Abstract
This study discusses issues that may be relevant to the mechanism of iron corrosion, particularly under anaerobic conditions. The observed stimulation of the disproportionation of Fe(OH)2 by ultraviolet light permits the interesting speculation that the corrosion of compact iron may be accelerated by uv light under certain conditions.
