Certain hitherto unknown nitroarenes, synthesized by the author using photochemical methods, have a high potential for use as ultraviolet filters to cut off radiations with wavelengths below 400 nm. Certain representative samples of these compounds on experimentation show that they have a sharp cutoff in the region below 400-450 nm., while being almost transparent to the region above 450 nm. The results are highly encouraging.
