The restoration of stained glass windows has always been rooted within the craft itself. From early medieval times until the 20th century, artists and glaziers have utilized their skills to repair and restore windows which have always had to function as weatherproof barriers as well as artistic expressions of faith. This has left a legacy within the V&A collection which clearly shows the range of problems faced by previous restorers and the variety of methods they used in restoring the windows.
