Lime plasters are generally liable to deteriorate because of the formation of sulfates and following the removal of them, due to blooming, as a result of humidity. We have examined these problems on the Del Grado Palace in Catania (Sicily). This report is addressed to the chemical and physical characterization of the deterioration phenomena involving artificial aggregates employed as binding in brickwork or employed in dressing the walls.
