Comparing it to medical research, this text presents arguments in favor of a more scientific orientation to be given to textile research. It discusses the importance of the treatment methodology, describing the obstacles to successful quantitative assessments, which are discussed in turn: the economics of online research; the feasibility of developing quantitative tests; the statistical reliability of the results; and the need to carry out research in the first place. The conclusions sum up the difficulty in applying research results obtained from new or artificially aged fabrics, as well as the need to develop more rigorous methods of record-keeping and more reliable methods of assessment of the condition of the objects prior to and after treatment.
