Production of restricted wood prelominarily plastified with urea, so-called destam, is discussed in detail in the paper. The destam production technology is twophasic one. In the first phase wood is modified with urea solution. Imbibition parameters and influence of the plastification with urea on particular properties of wood are analyzed. In the second phase wood id simultaneously dried and restricted. It has been proved that coniferous wood and ring-porous deciduous wood should be pressed in radial and diffuse- porous wood in tangential direction. Different kinds of deformations occurring during pressure of wood and the effect of plastification with urea on the pressure course are discussed. The application of pressure of the value order less than in other methods and of a gradual continuous increase of the load allow to obtain modified wood of high quality. Wood is dried by the vacuum method at application for drying of the high-voltage current. The revealed relationships allow to derive two principles of the procedure: 1. compressing power should be applied continuously during the whole period of drying proportionally to the decreasing wood humidity, 2. deformation rate should be adapted to the drying time and the restriction degree; it cannot be higher than the wood shrinkage rate. The analysis of temperature and humidity inside wood has proved that temperature inside wood is a good criterion of its humidity. Discussion of the properties of destam has proved its suitability for production of wood haberdashery, slide bearings, parquet, furniture, etc.
